The Hastings Parade project was all about maximising internal space while ensuring a clear separation between adult and children’s living areas. Storage was a top priority, with carefully integrated solutions in every room to enhance functionality. A seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces was also central to the design, transforming how the home is used and enjoyed.

Renovating within an existing structure always comes with surprises. Unexpected challenges included asbestos, deteriorated walls, and an unstable floor structure at the rear of the first floor. Limited street access and parking made deliveries and waste removal difficult, but our team’s professionalism and coordination earned praise from the neighbours, who were also our clients.

Working within the existing building, we carefully balanced old and new. The rear extension was visually separated by a vertical window, while a cohesive material palette—featuring red cedar cladding and battens—unified the façade. The entry staircase became a standout feature, enhanced with a refined steel balustrade and a rich carpet runner, improving natural light flow. A custom joinery blade wall added a contemporary edge, providing both visual appeal and practical storage solutions.

Despite the challenges, the result is a thoughtfully designed home that feels cohesive, functional, and tailored to the clients’ needs.
